Part-Time Studies
Generally speaking, study programmes at HfM are full-time. In certain study programmes and in particular situations it is possible to apply for part-time studies.
Bachelor Students
Bachelor students of orchestra instruments may apply to their department for part-time studies when completing an academic orchestral internship or similar.
Master Students
Master students of orchestra instruments may apply to their department for part-time studies when completing a study-related internship, an academy position or other professional activity in one of the following Berlin orchestras:
- Staatskapelle Berlin/ Deutsche Staatsoper
- Konzerthausorchester Berlin
- Orchester der Komischen Oper Berlin
- Berliner Philharmoniker
- Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin
- Orchester der Deutschen Oper Berlin
- Rundfunksinfonieorchester Berlin
Students may also apply for part-time status when completing an academic internship, academy position, or a career-related activity with a similarly ranked orchestra as those listed above.
For the application, please use the specified application form. Part-time status is usually granted for a period of two semesters with a possibility to extend.
Visualisation on study documents
Semesters in part-time studies are counted as half full study semesters of the course ("Fachsemester") and full university semesters ("Hochschulsemester"). On study documents, study semesters of the course ("Fachsemester") in part-time studies are shown according to the formula 1 full-time semester = 2 part-time semesters due to the individual teaching specificity in the artistic education of the school.
Example: Students studying full-time in the 2nd semester would be in the 4th semester of part-time study.
